Male Truck Driver Shot and Killed on Eastbound I-88 Near Exit Ramp to I-294

Illinois State Police and Oak Brook firefighter/paramedics responded Friday between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to a shooting to the eastbound lanes of Inbound lanes I-88 were partially blocked and fully blocked at various time near York Road in Oak Brook due to a fatal shooting.

The rescue and investigation caused a major backup on eastbound I-88 Friday evening. One lane remained blocked as of 8:50 p.m. but traffic was cleared by 9:15 p.m.

Illinois State Police report that 43-year-old Eduardo Munoz, of Sunrise, Florida, was shot and killed while driving his red Volvo truck eastbound on I-88.

A driver in an unknown vehicle shot at his truck tractor, and a bullet struck Munoz, who was able to pull over his truck safely after being shot.

Munoz was transported to Elmhurst Hospital by Oak Brook firefighter/paramedics, where he was pronounced dead.

Illinois State Police are investigating the shooting and at some point in time shut down all lanes of eastbound I-88 near the ramp to I-294 and York Road to gather evidence.
