Geneva fire officials identified the victim in the fatal accident at Geneva Commons as Donald J. Tentler, 47, of West Dundee. Police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:50 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2017 to a 911 call made just before noon, and rescuers found two men in a service bucket. Fire officials said when they arrived at the scene one man was conscious and the other unconscious and unresponsive. Paramedics then determined the victim had died. Recovery work required three hours to remove the body. No other injuries were reported.
No preliminary cause and manner of death was announced Friday. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, February 6, 2017.
The two men were working on equipment associated with a carillon bell tower that includes new video screens. The worker’s body appeared to be near the top of the tower, several feet above the video screens. The new large video screens were installed on the Bell Tower at Geneva Commons in December 2016. The video displays are functioning as enhanced information displays for holiday event information, special store offers, and other news about the shopping center. Starting in Spring 2017, the Commons plans to showcase free family-friendly movies on the new screens during warm weather months.
Kane County Coroner Rob Russell asked people to keep Donald Tentler’s family in their thoughts and prayers.
