The excitement is building for Prospect’s Marching Knights to perform in the 90th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. There are less than two days to wait to watch the Marching Knights Thanksgiving morning.

During the past month, the Marching Knights from District 214’s Prospect High School practiced at the Gattas Memorial Stadium with a mock up of the location near Herald Square in Manhattan, and the spotlight performance location of the flagship Macy’s store in New York City at 34th Street and 7th Avenue. There was even a mock up Macy’s star on the track during practice.

The Marching Knights received a send off from supporters and a police escort from Mount Prospect Police Department out of Mount Prospect on Sunday, November 20, 2016.

This week the marching band members are touring New York City, visiting the 9/11 museum, One World Trade Center, Chinatown and more. they practicing choreography with Broadway professionals.

News today is out that Prospect Marching Knight Hannah Thornton was awarded the Bob Hope Band Scholarship Award. Macy’s and the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation have proudly presented the Bob Hope Band Scholarship Award since 2003. The scholarship is designed to honor one outstanding band member and their school band program participating in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Through a written essay, each school participating in the Macy’s THANKSGIVING Day Parade can nominate one participating musician, auxiliary team member or drum major from their marching band program who best reflects the value and attributes that Bob Hope represented to millions of Americans, both at home and overseas. These values and attributes include musical ability, leadership initiative, sense of humor and a strong commitment to community service.

Members of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Selection Committee evaluate the essays and select the winning recipient. The selected student receives a $10,000. Scholarship award towards her/his education. In addition, the school band program receives $10,000.

Last year’s winner was Marching Illini band member Rose Craig, of Fox Lake, Illinois.
