Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded about 10:15 p.m. Monday to a report of a crash with injuries near West North Avenue and Burning Bush Lane. The driver, identified as Megan E. Rail, age 26, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2011 Chevrolet HHR she was driving struck a tree. Rail was not wearing a seat belt.

Initial investigation shows the 2011 Chevrolet HHR was westbound on North Avenue when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

North Avenue was closed for an extended period as crash investigators worked at the scene. The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit — working to investigate whether drugs, alcohol, or speed were a factor in the crash. Several road curves are located near the crash scene, where the speed limit is 45 MPH.
