Violence in Charlotte, North Carolina; Protester Shot in the Head; Property Destruction, Looting Reported

UPDATE: CMPD has reported that one person was shot and killed at about 10:20 p.m. ET.

Multiple sources are reporting a black male down with an apparent gunshot wound to the head during a protest confrontation with police. Initially, it is unknown who fired the shot near the Ritz Carlton, but the City of Charlotte reported by 8:40 p.m. that a shooting that seriously injured male/black victim was a civilian-on-civilian shooting.

Staff at the restaurant in The Ritz-Carlton hotel at College Street and Trade Street in Charlotte, NC, immediately barricaded doors during the protest and shooting.

Looting and destruction of property has also been observed tonight.

Seven police officers and one civilian were transported to area hospitals by 8:25 p.m.

Fox News reporters witnessed police shooting rubber bullets at about 8:35 p.m.
