CHICAGO BEARS RADIO -- WBBM Newsradio 780 "Traffic on the 8's"

Illinois State Police, Chicago Police and Chicago firefighters and paramedics responded about 5:50 a.m. Thursday to a shooting on the outbound Eisenhower Expressway before the Laramie Avenue exit. Both patients were transported by Chicago Fire Department paramedics to Stroger Hospital. The male patient was pronounced dead. Authorities did not initially released his identity. The female patient was listed in critical condition.

Illinois State police reported early that two vehicles were traveling westbound on the Eisenhower about 6:00 a.m. when an offender shot at an SUV, shattering the driver’s side window. Photos on the scene showed at least six bullet holes on the driver’s side. At least three bullet holes in the driver’s door and at least three in the rear driver’s side door.

The victim’s vehicle and the offender’s vehicle exited the Eisenhower Expressway at Laramie Avenue. The SUV came to rest on Flournoy Street — a frontage road just north of the Eisenhower Expressway.

Family members reporting to media sources, identified the victims as Johnathon David Ortiz, age 22, a local rapper who used the entertainment name “John Doe,” and his girlfriend, Alexis Garcia, also age 22.

The Eisenhower Expressway was shut down from California Avenue to Laramie Avenue about 7:40 a.m. while police investigators searched for shell casings and other evidence. The outbound Eisenhower expressway was re-opened at about 9:30 a.m.

Police received earlier reports this week of motorists display weapon — one yesterday, September 28, 2016 at about 4:00 p.m. on the I-90 westbound at the Edens Split. The male/white driver of a gray semi-trailer truck pointed a gun at another vehicle. The truck was last seen westbound I-90 from the Edens split.

Also, a motorist reported that a passenger in a black 2009 Chevy Impala displayed a handgun on southbound I-90 WB near Randolph Street. The passenger was described as a male/black subject
