A dashcam in a civilian vehicle captured a crash that involved 10 vehicles and a fire on Route 17 in Binghamton, New York on Thursday, August 25, 2016 about 4:30 p.m. One car was pushed into the center J-wall, which trapped a female driver in the vehicle while the vehicle caught fire.
Several motorists came to the rescue, exposing themselves to flames and smoke while having a difficult time opening the passenger side door. The citizens were pushed back by flames, but a fire extinguisher knocked down the fire enough so that the rescuers could pull the woman through the passenger window.
The mayor of Binghamton, Mayor Rich David shared the video on Monday.
The woman who was rescued from the burning car suffered minor cuts and bruises, and there were no fatalities in the crash. Ten people were transported to the hospital(s). Two people involved in the crash suffered serious injuries, but were expected to survive.
The semi-trailer truck driver was ticketed for faulty brakes, which initially is reported to be a contributing factor in the accident.
