3 Doors Down Founder, Guitarist, Found Dead in West Bend, Wisconsin Hotel Hallway

Guitarist Matt Roberts, a founding member of the rock band 3 Doors Down, found dead in hotel hallway in West Bend, Wisconsin.

Matt Roberts, age 38, was in West Bend to perform at a benefit. The West Bend Police Department responded about 7 a.m. Saturday August 20, 2016 to report an unconscious man in a hotel hallway. Police and firefighter/paramedics found Roberts dead.

According to a West Bend Police Department release, there were no signs of trauma and the cause of death was not immediately known. An autopsy was planned for today, and TMZ reported Saturday that his cause of death was possibly an accidental overdose of a prescription drug.

Roberts, who founded the band with vocalist Brad Arnold and bassist Todd Harrell, left 3 Doors Down in 2012 for health reasons. The three men grew up in Escatawpa, Mississippi.

he event was a fundraiser Saturday night at the Our Place bar for the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, the West Bend Daily News reported on Facebook which posted video of Roberts’ father speaking to the crowd.

The biggest hit for 3 Doors Down was the 2000 song Kryptonite, which was nominated for a Grammy Award.
