TWO SNIPERS SHOT 12 POLICE OFFICERS

5 POLICE OFFICERS KILLED

OVERNIGHT UPDATE: Two suspected snipers shot 12 police officers and one civilian. Additional snipers or accomplices were also suspected overnight. Police were in a standoff/negotiation/shootout with one shooter, who shot and killed himself overnight about 3:30 a.m. on the second floor of El Centro College parking garage near the initial shootings.

In the initial shooting, one DART police officer was killed, and four Dallas Police Department officers were killed. DART is the Dallas Area Rapid Transit.

The DART police officer was identified as Brent Thompson.

In addition to the dead suspect, two men and a woman were taken into custody overnight. The woman was taken into custody near the scene. The two male suspects were seen putting camouflage bag(s) into the back of a black Mercedes and were followed by police until they were stopped at I-35E and Kiest.

Fox 4 News is reporting that a “person of interest” turned himself in after police circulated pictures of him online, and that Dallas police released him shortly after 1:00 a.m.

Dallas Police Chief David O. Brown reported in the middle of the overnight response that he is not confident that all suspects have been accounted for.
