Lake County Sheriff’s Office Identifies and Arrests 7 Involved in Fraudulent Purchases at Apple Store

On July 20, 2016, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office obtained information that an organized criminal enterprise from New York was attempting to make fraudulent purchases at various Apple stores in Chicagoland. Further investigation revealed the offenders involved were using stolen identities and stolen credit card numbers of victims throughout the United States, to make the purchases.

Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives began an immediate investigation. Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives along with Lake County Sheriff’s Office Highway Patrol Deputies began conducting increased patrols and surveillance at the Deer Park Apple store.

On July 20, 2016, Nicole E. Cannon, 21, of New York, New York, attempted to purchase Apple products at the Deer Park Apple store with a fraudulent identity and counterfeit credit cards.

On July 22, 2016, Gisselle Diaz, 41, of Elmhurst, New York, also attempted to purchase Apple products at the Deer Park Apple store with a fraudulent identity.

On July 24, 2016, the following individuals were all involved in attempting to fraudulently purchase Apple products at the Deer Park Apple store:

Corbett Ortiz, 26, of New York, New York
Quintin Ortiz, 18, of Bronx, New York
Melinda Aquino, 21, of Bronx, New York
Frank Aulet, 20, of Bronx, New York

On July 27, 2016, the Deer Park Apple Store contacted Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives to inform detectives an individual was attempting to fraudulently purchase Apple products. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies immediately responded to the Deer Park Apple Store and arrested Simone L. Signorelli, 22, of Palisades, New York.

During an investigation of the suspects, Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives successfully recovered over $10,000.00 worth of stolen Apple products from the suspects. All of the above individuals were arrested by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and subsequently charged …

Burglary (Class 2 Felony)
Possession of a Counterfeit Credit Card (Class 3 Felony)
Use of a Counterfeit Credit Card (Class 3 Felony)
Unlawful Use of a Fraudulent ID to Commit Theft (Class 3 Felony)
Identity Theft (Class 3 Felony)
Forgery (Class 3 Felony)

Cannon is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on $125,000.00 bail. Her next court date is August 17, 2016, at 1:30PM in courtroom C-120.

Gisselle Diaz:
Retail Theft (Class 2 Felony)
Identity Theft (Class 2 Felony)
Burglary (Class 2 Felony)

Diaz is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on $75,000.00 bail. Her next court date is July 28, 2016, at 1:30PM in courtroom C-120.

Forgery (Class 3 Felony)

Quintin Ortiz is currently being held without bail at the Lake County Jail. He is due in court on July 25, 2016, at 9:00AM in courtroom C-120.

Melinda Aquino:
Burglary (Class 2 Felony)
Possession of a Counterfeit Credit Card (Class 3 Felony)
Unlawful Use of a Fraudulent ID to Commit Theft (Class 3 Felony)
Identity Theft (Class 3 Felony)

Aquino is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on $150,000.00 bail. Her next court date is July 26, 2016 at 1:30PM in courtroom C-120.

Frank Aulet:
Possession of a Counterfeit Credit Card (Class 3 Felony)
Possession of a Fraudulent ID to Commit Theft (Class 3 Felony)
Identity Theft (Class 3 Felony)

Aulet is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on $250,000.00 bail. His next court date is July 26, 2016, at 1:30PM in courtroom C-120.

Simone L. Signorelli
Burglary (Class 2 Felony)
Identity Theft (Class 3 Felony)
Possession of a Counterfeit Credit Card (Class 3 Felony), and
Unlawful Use of a Fraudulent ID to Commit Theft (Class 3 Felony).

Signorelli appeared in Bond Court on July 28, 2016, where her bail was set at $250,000.00. She is next due in court on August 2, 2016, at 9:00AM, in courtroom C-120.

Sheriff Curran reminds the public that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
