Video: Student Security Guard Tackles Campus Shooter in June 2014; Case Goes to Court in September

Jon Meis, a student security guard at Seattle Pacific University, pepper-sprayed, tackled and disarmed an active campus shooter in June 2014. The footage was just released by a judge.

On June 5, 2014, about 3:30 p.m., a shooting occurred in Otto Miller Hall. One student was killed and two other students were injured. Freshman student Paul Lee, aged 19, was fatally wounded, and a male, age 24, and a female, age 19, were hospitalized for serious injuries.

Suspect, Aaron Ybarra, age 26, of Mountlake Terrace, Washington, who was not a student at the school, had no prior connection to the university. Ybarra was reported to have had a troubled past and a history of mental health issues. He is pleading not guilty by reason of insanity.
