Police were called to the Creekside Church of Christ on Highway 287 around 5 a.m. after a fitness class participant found 45-year-old fitness coach Terri “Missy” Bever’s body inside the building.

Missy Bevers, a fitness instructor about to lead a class, was found dead inside Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian, Texas Monday morning. The initial call to police was a report of an unresponsive female. Midlothian police are looking for a man captured on video that was wearing police SWAT tactical clothing with police markings in the church at the time her death.

Others who have analyzed the video have not ruled out that a woman is wearing the police tactical clothing. The tactical gear consisted of a helmet, gloves and military-style battle-dress pants.

The offender is believed to have been at the church before the victim arrived at about 4:18 a.m. There is video of the victim arriving at the church and walking in a hallway. However, surveillance video did not capture the murder or any interaction between the suspect and the victim. Missy Bevers was a boot camp instructor, and the date, time and details of the class had been announced on social media.

The church had signs of forcible entry and other damage. Multiple doors were discovered with signs of forcible entry. Initially, investigators have not concluded whether the crime was a targeted murder or an interrupted burglary. Police did not release the mechanism of injury of the homicide. The crime is the first homicide in Midlothian, Texas in at least nine years. The church premise history showed no criminal reports or police incidents in the last 8-12 months, according to police.
