Two Arrested: Des Plaines Police Assist Lake County Sheriff with Unincorporated Palatine Gas Station Robbery

On March 26, 2016, Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives were informed Des Plaines Police Department had a juvenile in custody for an armed robbery, which occurred in Des Plaines. Des Plaines Police Officers recognized the juvenile as being involved in the Marathon Gas Station armed robbery, due to a police bulletin previously issued by Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives.

Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives responded to the Des Plaines Police Department, where they conducted an interview with the juvenile. The juvenile admitted his involvement in the unincorporated Palatine armed robbery. He is currently being held in a Cook County Juvenile Detention Facility and sheriff’s detectives will submit a juvenile delinquent referral/petition on the charge of Armed Robbery (Class X Felony), for his role in the Marathon Gas Station armed robbery.
On March 28, 2016, sheriff’s detectives located the second juvenile offender at his residence. He was taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Hulse Juvenile Detention Facility pending a juvenile detention hearing. Sheriff’s Detectives have submitted a juvenile delinquent referral/petition on the charge of Armed Robbery (Class X Felony), for his role in the armed robbery.

During the investigation, sheriff’s detectives recovered the gun used in the armed robbery and determined it was a BB gun, which looked like an actual, functioning firearm. Over $300.00 was stolen from Marathon Gas Station during the armed robbery.

Information about the unincorporated Palatine Armed Robbery was previously released by the Lake County Sheriff’s office with photos of the suspects with their faces blanked out, and the following information …

On March 22, 2016, at approximately 11:25PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the Marathon Gas Station, 20235 N Rand Road, Unincorporated Palatine, for an armed robbery. The store clerk called 911 and reported he had been robbed at gunpoint by two male individuals.

The offenders took cash during the robbery and then fled on foot, south toward Lake Cook Road. Three Lake County Sheriff’s Office Canine Teams and a Schaumburg Police Canine Team responded to the scene. The canines detected the scent of the offenders, which led from the Marathon Gas Station and ended in the area of Lake Cook Road and Plum Grove Road, Palatine. The offenders were not located and remain at large.

The two offenders were described as being:
#1) White or Hispanic male, approximately 15 – 20 years of age, brown hair, brown eyes, and approximately 5’07” – 5’08”, medium build. He was wearing a checkered style hooded sweatshirt, black pants with white stripes, and carried a fluorescent yellow backpack. This individual displayed a handgun.

#2) White or Hispanic male, approximately 15 – 20 years of age, brown hair, brown eyes, and approximately 5’10” – 5’11”, medium build. He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with the wording “Southpole”, grey camouflage style pants, and carried a black backpack with a white emblem.
