The offenders stole cash during the robbery and then fled on foot, south toward Lake Cook Road. Three Lake County Sheriff’s Office Canine Teams and a Schaumburg Police K-9 Team responded to the scene. The canines detected the scent of the offenders, which led from the Marathon Gas Station and ended in the area of Lake Cook Road and Plum Grove Road, Palatine. The offenders were not located and remain at large.

The two offenders are described as being …

#1) White or Hispanic male, approximately 15 – 20 years of age, brown hair, brown eyes, and approximately 5’07” – 5’08”, medium build wearing a checkered style hooded sweatshirt, black pants with white stripes, and carried a fluorescent yellow backpack. This individual displayed a handgun.

#2) White or Hispanic male, approximately 15 – 20 years of age, brown hair, brown eyes, and approximately 5’10” – 5’11”, medium build. He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with the wording “Southpole”, grey camouflage style pants, and carried a black backpack with a white emblem.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division urges citizens with information to contact the sheriff’s office at 847-377-4147, if you have information regarding this incident or recognize the clothing worn by the offenders.

The faces of the offenders in the attached photographs have been removed, due to the possibility they are juveniles.

NOTE: Police departments can be sued for not protecting the confidentiality of juveniles in a criminal case. While the necessity of protection of confidentiality in this case of armed robbery might not be clear, the sheriff’s department has decided to act on the side of legal safety.

Somehow, with the way our justice system works, the end result is that the police give priority to confidentiality for armed robbers that might be juveniles over the priority of the safety of the general public, gas station clerks, and customers of gas stations.
