Road Raged Woman, a Bat and an Uber Driver in Downtown Evanston

Myesha Griffin, age 19, was a front-seat passenger Thursday in a car that was behind an Uber car stopped near an alley exit in the 1700 block of North Benson Avenue in downtown Evanston. Also inside the Griffin car were the driver (Griffin’s mother), two of Griffin’s younger brothers and another female relative.

According to Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Shawn Abraham, Griffin’s mother honked her car horn at a 27-year-old Uber driver who was waiting for his passenger.

The Uber driver initially signaled to Griffin’s mother to wait a moment before he moved forward to allow the car containing Griffin to exit the alley. After her mother drove around the Uber car, Griffin got out of the car and smashed the Uber vehicle’s side mirror.

The Uber driver got out of his car, and then Myesha Griffin struck him in the back of the head and neck with a short bat.

When the Uber driver tried to open a door of the Griffin car, Griffin’s mother drove away while dragging the Uber driver down the street.

Police and paramedics responded to the scene. The Uber driver suffered a laceration to his neck from the force of the bat, and was transported to an area hospital where he received three staples to close the wounds on his neck and back of his head.

Myesha Griffin, of the 2300 block of Foster Street, was arrested and faces two counts of aggravated battery and criminal damage to property following the incident.

Cook County Judge Peggy Chiampas ordered Griffin, 19, held on $100,000 during a bond hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building.
