Gunman Shot and Killed at Northlake Mall, Charlotte, North Carolina

An altercation about 2:00 p.m. Christmas Eve in the Northlake Mall in Charlotte, North Carolina, escalated to gunfire and initially one person was shot. Witnesses reported that a group of people “ganged up” on a man. During the fight, a man displayed a gun, and a friend of the man was shot. The extent of his injuries were not initially known.

Medic 911 ambulances from Charlotte responded to the shooting incident along with police and firefighter/paramedics. Initial EMS patients were described as a person with a gunshot wound to the leg, a woman in labor, and one patient with an asthma attack.

Shoppers at the mall heard several gunshots. Employees and shoppers, who recognized the sounds as gunshots, locked the doors and headed out a back door of some stores. Some store employees in the mall had received active shooter training and were prepared how to hide and/or evacuate.

A police officer, responding to the shooting inside the mall, shot and killed the shooter.
