Arlington Heights Police Department has charged Mark E. Silverston, age 24 of Arlington Heights, with one count of aggravated robbery as a suspect in the October 17, 2015 armed robbery of the Palm Beach Tanning Salon on Palatine Road.

Arlington Heights police report that Silverston, 5’8″ 135 LBS, was identified by someone police described as a “Good Samaritan” who saw security camera images posted on the Arlington Heights Police Department’s official Twitter account.

According to police, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt entered the tanning salon at 1:35 p.m. Saturday October 17, 2015 and approached the front counter. After the clerk greeted the man, he lifted his sweatshirt to display a black handgun in his waistband. The offender placed his left hand on the gun and said, “Give me all of your money.”

Police retrieved security camera images from two different retail locations. One location at the tanning salon showing the robber with his hood up at the scene of the crime while the robbery was in progress. The second security camera retrieved from an adjacent business showed the suspect without his hood up. The suspect was at the adjacent location before he entered the salon where the robbery occurred.

A second armed robbery was committed by a suspect armed with a knife on Saturday October 31, 2015 at 7:45 p.m. at the same tanning salon. The second robbery remains under investigation, police reported Thursday. Police earlier in November indicated the same person was possibly responsible for both armed robberies.

A judge set bail at $100,000 Thursday.

Silverston is being held in the Cook County jail. He is scheduled to return to court December 10, 2015.

Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
