KHOU Helicopter Video Shows Firefighter Fall Through Roof During House Fire in Houston

There was a scramble for firefighters battling a house fire in Houston when a firefighter fell through the roof of the burning home. The firefighter’s colleagues pulled him out of the burning home. Fortunately, he wasn’t seriously hurt.

Houston firefighters responded Friday afternoon to a house fire at Luca Street and Tierwester Street. While firefighters were on the roof working on ventilating the house, one firefighter fell through the roof of the home as news helicopters crews were capturing video.

Firefighters quickly worked to rescue him from the ever-expanding hole in the roof of the house that was still burning and charged with smoke. After the firefighter falls through, more of the roof sags and collapses. Firefighters scramble to reach the firefighter before his air supply is depleted. A ground ladder is lifted and then lowered into the hole in the roof, while a power saw slides down the roof and almost falls to the ground.

The firefighter was rescued, and was not seriously injured.

The owner wasn’t home when the fire started.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
