Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a man was down on the side of the road with tire tracks in the grass and a mailbox down.

James A. Spicak, was found dead near his mailbox late Monday night after he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office reports.

James A. Spicak, 68, of the 16000 block of West Pope Boulevard in unincorporated Prairie View near Buffalo Grove, was found dead in a ditch near his mailbox about 11 p.m. according to Lake County sheriff’s Detective Christopher Covelli.

Paramedics on an engine company from Buffalo Grove Fire Department were also on the scene and were added to the Advanced Life Support crew that transported Spicak to Condell.
