Lake County Sheriff’s Office police and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods and Buffalo Grove firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:00 PM Monday to a hit-and-run with a pedestrian fatally injured Pope Boulevard and Eugene Avenue Lincolnshire, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a man was down on the side of the road with tire tracks in the grass and a mailbox down.

James A. Spicak, was found dead near his mailbox late Monday night after he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office reports.

James A. Spicak, 68, of the 16000 block of West Pope Boulevard in unincorporated Prairie View near Buffalo Grove, was found dead in a ditch near his mailbox about 11 p.m. according to Lake County sheriff’s Detective Christopher Covelli.

No description of an offending vehicle was available, but an initial investigation discovered that an unknown vehicle apparently was driven westbound on Pope Boulevard near Eugine Avenue, when an unknown motorist drove the vehicle off the roadway and struck several mailboxes and Spicak.

When sheriff’s deputies and firefighter/paramedics arrived, they found the Spicak unresponsive with injuries consistent with trauma from being hit by a vehicle.

Spicak was transported by Lincolnshire-Riverwoods firefighter/paramedics to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead. Paramedics on an engine company from Buffalo Grove Fire Department were also on the scene and were added to the Advanced Life Support crew that transported Spicak to Condell.

The crash is being investigated by the Lake County sheriff’s technical crash investigations unit. Citizens with information about the crash are urged to call the Lake County sheriff’s office at 847-549-5200 or Lake County Crime Stoppers at 847-662-2222.
