Thunderstorms are popping up west, northwest and southwest of Arlington Heights about as far west as the Cook County – DuPage County border.

The storm are stationary in a clash with hot, humid summer air and cool lake air. Since the storms are stationary, rain could be especially heavy in Long Grove, Palatine, western Elk Grove Village Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Wheaton, Lombard, Downers Grove and areas nearby.

Although the storms are stationary, they are are likely to grow in size into Arlington Heights and neighboring communities.

Frequent lightning, wind gusts to 40-50 mph, dime size hail and heavy downpours are possible with these storms.

The storms are expected to stop no later than 7:00 p.m.
