US Grand Jury Indicts All 6 Baltimore Police Officers in Death of Freddie Gray

A US grand jury indicted all six Baltimore police officers in the death of Freddie Gray. The Baltimore police officers will be arraigned on July 2, prosecutor says.

Officer Caesar R. Goodson Jr. accused of failure to render any medical assistance and charged with second-degree depraved-heart murder, involuntary manslaughter, second-degree assault, manslaughter by vehicle (gross negligence), manslaughter by vehicle (criminal negligence) and misconduct in office.

Officer Garret E Miller, 26, one of three officers on bicycle patrol, and charged with two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of misconduct in office and false imprisonment. Miller is accused of restraining Gray with a “leg lace.”

Officer Edward M. Nero, 29, one of three officers on bicycle patrol is accused of shackling and cuffing Gray and holding him down until the transport van arrived. He is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of misconduct in office and false imprisonment.

Officer William G. Porter responded to assist Officer Caesar R Goodson Jr, and was asked to check on Freddie Gray. Porter allegedly asked Gray if he needed a medic. When Gray replied “yes” twice, Porter helped Gray to a bench, but did not assess his condition and did not call for medical assistance. Porter, 25, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, second-degree assault and misconduct in office.

Lt. Brian W. Rice, 41, one of three officers on bicycle patrol is accused of encountering Gray and arresting and restraining Gray. He is charged with involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of misconduct in office and false imprisonment.

Sgt. Alicia D. White, 30, was present on one of the stops to check on Gray’s condition. White is accused of not rendering or summoning any aid as Freddie Gray’s condition deteriorated.
