Flood Warning Des Plaines River; Tornado Watch in Effect Until 11 PM: If Severe Weather Hits, Mostly Likely Between 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM

#ad▼

TODAY SUNRISE: 6:19 AM SUNSET: 7:26 PM

Chicagoland weather radar shows severe thunderstorms heading northeast just passed in Boone County near Rockford. Otherwise storms have diminished in the area. The storm of concern northeast of Peoria about 2:00 p.m. diminished in intensity and size and passed south of the northwest suburbs.

New thunderstorm cells are developing southwest of Rockford and southwest of Naperville at 6:00 p.m.

Satellite images show clearing over much of northern Illinois, which gave a chance to heat up the area and increase instability for storms to develop later. Clouds are lined up along the Mississippi for all of the north two-thirds of Illinois.

Currently it remains to be seen if storms will fire up again between now and the expiration of the Tornado Watch at 11:00 p.m. Models show the best chance for severe weather between 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The cold front is expected to arrive at about 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. with a temperature drop from 68°F at 8:00 p.m. to 52°F by midnight.
