Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:30 AM Thursday to a report of a house fire at 441 East Baldwin Road Palatine, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics responded to a report of a fire in a chimney at a single family home. The first Palatine Fire Department crews arrived on the scene at 9:35 p.m. and reported smoke coming from the chimney and roof area. Upon further investigation the fire crews found that a fire in the fireplace had extended beyond the fire box and ignited structural material in the wall around the chimney. The first fire companies opened up the wall around the fireplace and extinguished the smoldering fire with a pressurized water extinguisher. A 1 3⁄4 hose line was stretched to the interior of the building while the attic and other surrounding areas were checked for fire extension.

The fire was out at 9:45 p.m. and overhaul continued to ensure no extension of the fire was made into other areas of the structure.
No residents or firefighters were injured in the fire. Damage estimates were not available at the time of the release, and the fire remains under investigation by Palatine Fire Department investigators.

The residents were home at the time of the incident and were in the process of moving.

The fire was fought by 18 firefighters, staffing two engines, two ladder trucks, one rescue squad and two ambulances which responded to the scene along with three command officers and two Fire Investigators. Palatine Police officers assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control.

The Palatine Fire Department reminds everyone to immediately call 911 if they see smoke or suspect there is a fire. Have an escape plan, practice it, and be prepared to use it in the event of any fire.
