Leinonen was hit shortly before 6:55 a.m. Monday by a Volkswagen Golf that was westbound on Grove Street at Kaspar Avenue near Pioneer Park. Her dog was not injured in the incident.
Arlington Heights police confirmed that Barbara Leinonen succumbed to her injuries and passed away at Lutheran General Hospital at approximately 1:48 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015.
Arlington Heights Police Department is conducting a speed analysis, and earlier this week was getting search warrants for the 16-year-old driver’s wireless phone records — routine procedure in a serious accident. Arlington Heights police Capt. Andrew Whowell expects the investigation to be completed later this week.
The driver of the Volkswagen Golf has not been charged or cited, as of Wednesday.
