House Under Renovation Destroyed by Fire on Dorchester Lane, Elk Grove Village

Elk Grove Village police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:23 AM Saturday to a house fire at 332 Dorchester Lane, Elk Grove Village, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics initially received a report that smoke was in the air, and that a fire was apparently nearby in the area of Dover Lane and Berkenshire Lane. The fire was initially believed to be coming from a house on Dorchester Lane.

The paramedic crew from Elk Grove Fire Department Ambulance 7 reported smelling smoke in the area at about 3:23 a.m.

Firefighters on Truck 7 reported a light haze at Wellington and Berkenshire at 3:25 a.m.

Ambulance 7’s crew found the fire at a two-story house under renovation at 332 Dorchester Lane with a dumpster on the driveway. Fire was showing from the front of the house at 3:27 a.m.

The fire was upgraded to a working fire response at 3:29 a.m. but was immediately canceled by about 3:33 a.m. and then re-activated at 3:36 a.m. with fire showing from all sides of the house and through the roof.

The crew from Truck 7 or Tower Ladder 10 raised the ladder to hit the fire through the roof with an elevated master stream.

Most visible fire from the house was extinguished by about 3:56 a.m. Firefighters brought two 2 1/2-inch lines to the rear of the house to continue to attack fire showing in the attic of the house.

Firefighters were chasing hot spots, embers and small fires showing past 4:47 a.m. and began final washdown inside the house at about 5:23 a.m. Firefighters began shutting down hose lines at about 5:30 a.m.

Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates, Mount Prospect, and Roselle assisted Elk Grove Village firefighters either at the scene or by standing by at Elk Grove Village fire stations.
