Power Outage in Buffalo Grove, Riverwoods and Wheeling From Semi-Trailer Truck That Hit Lines At Buffalo Grove Rd & Short Aptakisic Rd

Over 700 ComEd customers were without power in Buffalo Grove and Wheeling shortly after a crash that hit power lines late Tuesday morning. Another 312 customers were also without power in Riverwoods near Lake Cook Road and Portwine Road and near the Discover Financial Services office campus.

Buffalo Grove police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:51 AM Tuesday to a report of crash with injuries at St Mary’s Parkway and Buffalo Grove Road Buffalo Grove, IL. A power outage in Buffalo Grove and Wheeling Tuesday morning was caused by a truck that hit power lines at Buffalo Grove Road and Short Aptakisic Road in Buffalo Grove. Power line(s) also fell at Lake Cook Road and Weidner Road in Wheeling about one block north of the truck incident.

Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a semi-trailer truck hit a power line. Sparks and fire were briefly seen at the pole.

Buffalo Grove Fire Department’s Tower 25 crew reported that a pole was hit and all primary power lines were involved in the crash. ComEd was requested to the scene. A fire hydrant was also hit in the crash.

The crash was initially reported at St Mary’s Parkway and Buffalo Grove Road.

Wheeling firefighters also responded to a downed power line at Lake Cook Road and Weiland Road about one block away. The incidents are likely related. Wheeling firefighters also reported a primary line down on the ground.

Traffic signals were reported out at Lake Cook Road and Buffalo Grove Road.
