Former White House Press Secretary James Brady has died at age 73, his family reports.

Brady was a former Assistant to the President and White House Press Secretary under President Ronald Reagan.

Brady suffered a gunshot wound to the head during an assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan in 1981. The near fatal injury permanently disabled him, and Brady became an fervent supporter of gun control.
