Thunderstorms with Frequent Lightning, Heavy Rain Cause House Fire, Power Outages, And Flash Flooding

Chicagoland weather radar shows a wide area of thunderstorms from Madison, Wisconsin to Champaign, Illinois.

Thunderstorms hit the area of western Arlington Heights about 1:50 p.m. and caused flash flooding

There were at least two reports of people trapped in their vehicles — one on Kensington Road near Home Depot in Mount Prospect, and one at 400 West Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights. Firefighters in Arlington Heights. The Arlington Heights incident was a minor incident and the Mount Prospect incident was not found.

There are numerous reports of streets flooded, including Belmont Avenue north of Thomas Street, Valley Lane (cross street unknown), and Kensington Road by Home Depot.

An attic roof area was reported at 961 Wood Street in Palatine — possibly caused by a lightning strike. Firefighters quickly extinsuished the fire.

An elevator shaft was also flooded at Caputo & Son’s at 25 East Palatine Road.

In the 300 block of East Freemont a telephone pole was snapped with lines affected. Thre were also tree branches down on power lines on Kennicott Avenue.

A manhole cover was reported missing from flood waters at Northwest Highway and Wilson.
