Rescuers in Idaho responded about 7:45 p.m. Friday to the north side of the Snake River about a half-mile west of Shoshone Falls to a report of a base jumper with a failed parachute. Adam Rubin, age 23, of Long Grove was killed in the fall.

The fatal parachuting accident occurred when Adam Rubin’s parachute failed to deploy and caused him to strike the canyon wall during free fall.

Rescuers from Jerome County and Twin Falls County reached Rubin in about 45 minutes and found him dead at the scene, which was about 50 yards above the river’s edge.

Three other people participating in the jump landed without incident.

Rubin was a graduate of Adlai E. Stevenson High School and was a resident of Long Grove.
