Ask Paul B: Tough To Be A Policeman

Dear Paul B,

You have not written one word on this St. Louis policeman murder of a black youth. Everyone liked him, and yet you say nothing. Why is that? Your silence is deafening!

Dear Matty,

I was waiting for more information about this alleged murder. I live in Chicago, you must know. I see and hear about blacks killing one another on a daily basis. In a weekend, there can be up to 30 shootings, with 17 people killed! It is shocking, sickening, scary, and very sad. Our cities are NOT safe. It is NOT the police that need to protect people. There can be a million police on the streets of our city, and there will STILL be too many guns that are in the hands of the gang-bangers, criminals and the insane. Kids are shot INSIDE their homes by these reckless insane criminals. I weep for all these people who must live in these high crime areas. Michael Brown was a very “bigger than life” kid. He was 300 pounds, and at 6’3″, I would not want to be confronted by him…anywhere. He had “purportedly ” robbed a convenience store earlier on August 9th. He was told by a passing squad car officer to “get off the street,” while walking with a friend. I read that the officer pulled up next to Brown and his friend. A struggle ensued over the gun (where the officer received facials wounds,) and Brown is shot. If an officer is confronted with this situation, how many policemen would NOT fire their weapon? When a man (white, black or otherwise,) is trying to take your gun, are there “other options?” If so, please enlighten me, because I am unable to find a single one. Mr. Brown was shot five times “to areas from knees to neck entering from the front.” I don’t know why a police officer would “intentionally” shoot an unarmed, peace-loving, man, for no reason. All police know that cameras are rolling EVERYWHERE, so why shoot a person with no rationale? I hope we learn more about this horrible situation. I am still unclear how looting, rioting, and arson will clear this up anytime soon…. If the policeman is found guilty of murder, so be it. But let us remain calm until all the facts are uncovered. Until then, I will not defend a “lynching party” for this Officer Wilson.
