Deadly Holiday 4th of July Weekend in Chicago: 14 Killed, 82 Shot

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says shootings over the Fourth of July weekend that left at least nine people dead and more than 50 more injured included eight incidents that involved police.

The total gunshot wound tally for the Fourth of July weekend is 82 shot, 14 killed. Five of the people who were shot were shot by police during a 36-hour period from Friday to Saturday. Two of the police-involved shootings included the fatal shootings of two boys, age 14 and 16, who were killed when they allegedly refused to drop their guns.

The worst outbreak of violence occurred between 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 3:30 a.m. Monday when four people were killed and at least 26 were injured with gunshot wounds.
