The CEO of Chicago-based Arrowstream was critically injured with a gunshot wound to the head and abdomen after he was shot by a gunman who then shot himself in the head. The shooting occurred about 9:50 a.m Thursday at the high-rise building known as the “Bank of America building” in the Financial District downtown or “LaSalle Canyon” just north of the Chicago Board of Trade Building.

Police found a 54-year-old victim, identified as ArrowStream CEO Steven LaVoie, injured with a gunshot wound to his abdomen and head and the 59-year-old gunman deceased with a gunshot wound to the head. Firefighters and paramedics staged outside while police secured the scene. The scene was secured by about 10:02 a.m.
Steven LaVoie founded ArrowStream in 2000 and serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. LaVoie’s extensive experience in foodservice and finance, combined with his passion and commitment to building trust among trading partners, has helped him develop a unique vision for reshaping the foodservice supply chain. Since founding ArrowStream, he and his team have been dedicated to building the world’s most efficient supply chains.
Prior to forming ArrowStream, LaVoie was President of the Sterno Division at Blyth Industries, a $1.3 billion global consumer products company. Previously, LaVoie held several positions at Blyth Industries including Vice President of International and Corporate Controller. LaVoie earned his Master’s degree in public and private management (MPPM) from the Yale School of Management and his Bachelor of Arts from The University of California, Berkeley.
LaVoie has earned many professional recognitions including: Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 Midwest honoree, finalist for the Illinois Technology Association (ITA) 2010 CEO of the Year, and Supply and Demand Chain Executives’ 2009 Pros to Know. He serves on the Board of the Chicago Institute of Psychoanalysis and chairs its investment committee. He has been involved with the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association since 1999.
Steven enjoys spending time with his wife Jody and their three daughters.
Both men were lying unresponsive on the floor of an office. Supt. Garry McCarthy reported LaVoie is in “grave condition.”
Apparently the shooter was despondent over about being demoted as the company was downsizing.
