CHICAGO BEARS RADIO -- WBBM Newsradio 780 "Traffic on the 8's"

Arlington Heights resident Eric G. Collins, 42, passed away suddenly on April 17, 2014 as a result of a pulmonary embolism. Today at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Wayside, family and friends will mourn the loss of a father, family man and respected co-worker and friend who died way too young. Collins served as interim Director of Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp in Crystal Falls, MI where he developed many lasting friendships, and was currently employed as a Human Resource Manager at Lundbeck Inc. in Deerfield, Illinois.

Eric was born to Bruce and Janice (Bjorne) Collins of Kingsford MI on May 15, 1971 and was a 1989 graduate of KHS. He graduated from St.Norbert College in 1993 with a degree in psychology and communications. At St. Norberts he met Laura McCaskey. They were married on September 2, 2000.

Together, he and Laura were a wonderful team in raising their four children. He spent every minute he could with them and enjoyed supporting their activities and coaching their teams, especially swimming. He also currently participated in a master’s swimming program. He was a member of Our Lady of Wayside Parish.

He is survived by his loving wife, Laura; cherished children, Lillian (10), Evan (8), Leah (6), and Ethan (4); devoted son of Bruce and Janice Collins, loving brother of Todd (Kim) Collins of Aurora, IL and a sister, Kirstin (Matt) Rose of Cedarburg, WI, dear son-in-law of Lil (Don) Korff and the late Timothy McCaskey; fond brother-in-law of Kevin McCaskey, Brian (Amanda) McCaskey and Scott (Nancy) McCaskey and fun, loving uncle of Anthony, Emily, Hannah, Grace, Hayden, Madeline, Abigail, Kaitlyn, Brooklyn and Emily. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Edwin and June Bjorne and George and Helen Collins.

His circle of friends extended throughout the country. As one friend said, “To know Eric was to love Eric.”

Today’s Funeral, Wednesday, April 23, 2014 is at Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 440 S. Mitchell Street, Arlington Heights at 11:00 AM near South Middle School. Traffic is expected to be heavy during this time. Interment will be private.

Visitation was Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 3-8PM at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Eric G. Collins Memorial Fund (to benefit his children’s education) c/o Oehler Funeral Home appreciated.
