McHenry County …
Woodstock police and firefighters responded about 6:24 p.m. Monday to a crash involving an unmarked police and two other vehicles at Route 14 and Dean Street.

At 6:24 p.m., a 15-year-old male driver was waiting to turn left from westbound Route 14 onto Dean Street. When the teen turned left, he struck an unmarked Woodstock squad car that was traveling with a green light eastbound on Route 14. After the first impact, the unmarked squad car hit a vehicle that was waiting in traffic northbound on Dean Street.

The male teen driver, of Woodstock, was driving on a learner’s permit. The teen driver and his adult passenger were transported to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock. They were treated and released.

Officer Eric Schmidtke was driving a Ford Interceptor (a police-modifed Ford Crown Victoria) and was extricated from the vehicle. The extrication was prolonged due to extra equipment and weapons in the police vehicle. Schmidtke was transported to Woodstock Hospital, and subsequently flown to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s office.

An OSF Life Flight helicopter St. Francis Medical Center based at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois was involved in the patient transport of Schmidtke.
