Northbrook firefighter/paramedics and police responded about 10:58 a.m. Wednesday to a report that a girl, age 3, was injured after a bookcase fell on top of her at a home in the 1900 block of Clover Road, near Techny Road.
The girl was in cardiac arrest at the scene, and was treated by paramedics and rushed to Glenbrook Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A man from the house was also taken out of the house on a stretcher, and transported by paramedics.
Chicago firefighters and paramedics responded about 2:22 p.m. to an apartment fire in the 1700 block of West Juneway Terrace in Rogers Park with a report of a fire on the third floor with people trapped. A 3-year-old girl was killed when was trapped in a burning bedroom.
The girl, identified as LeAndra Weekly, with playing with matches or a lighter with her twin sister when a mattress in the bedroom caught fire. The girl’s mother attempted to throw the mattress out the window, but the added air fanned the flames and pushed the mother back out of the room, as she searched and couldn’t find her daughter. The girl that died apparently hid somewhere in the burning room.
When firefighters arrived, the bedroom actually on the fourth floor, was fully-involved with fire. LeAndra Weekly was found badly burned by firefighters on a secondary search after the fire was extinguished.
