Arlington Heights Police Promote Six Officers: One to Captain, Two to Commander, and Three to Sergeant

Arlington Heights Police Department promoted six police officers recently. The promotions were made official at the Village Board meeting Monday night. The event was the largest number of police officers promoted in one meeting in recent memory.

Captain Andrew Whowell.

Andrew Whowell is promoted to Police Captain. Whowell has served in the police department since 1987 He has served as patrol officer, criminal investigator, and D.A.R.E. officer. He as been assigned in the patrol bureau and the traffic bureau. He was promoted to sergeant in 2002 and commander in 2009.

Commander Mark Recker.

Mark Recker is promoted to Police Commander. Recker has served the department since 1996. He has served as patrol officer in patrol bureau and criminal investigations bureau. He served as sergeant starting in 2006 and was assigned as a shift supervisor. In 2010 he was assigned to the support bureau of the Administrative Services Division. He has worked as training coordinator, grant manager, and policy researcher.

Commander Nathan Hayes.

Nathan Hayes is promoted to Police Commander. Hayes has served the department since 1998. He served as patrol officer, detective, patrol sergeant, and criminal investigation bureau sergeant. Hayes has also served as an investigator and commander with the Major Case Assistance Team, and has received several honors in his career.

Sergeant Alan Baumgartner.

Alan Baumgartner is promoted to Police Sergeant. He has served in the police department since 1985. Baumgartner served as public service officer, patrol officer, gang tactical investigator, high school police liaison, and a juvenile detective. He also has served as police liaison for several organizations that serve youth.

Sergeant Doug Hajek.

Douglas Hajek is promoted to Police Sergeant. Hajek has served in the police department since 1991. He has served as a patrol officer, school officer, and crime prevention officer. He has received an award of valor for rescuing a person from a burning condominium earlier in his career with Arlington Heights.

Sergeant Thomas Henderson.

Thomas Henderson is promoted to Police Sergeant. Henderson has served in the police department since 1992. He has served as patrol officer, criminal investigator, gang crimes investigator, juvenile investigator, and school resource officer. He is a police motorcycle operator inspector and motorcycle and traffic enforcement officer, and has received several honors for vehicle occupant protection.
