Underground Vault Fire Near 303 West Madison Building, Chicago — HazMat Level 1

Chicago police and firefighters responded about 5:38 PM to an underground vault fire at Madison Street and Franklin Street. Firefighters have since pinpointed the address to 303 West Madison Street. Police and firefighters has set up a perimeter to help citizens avoid respiratory hazard, and have categorized the response as a Level I Hazmat call. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic on Madison Street was blocked between Franklin Street and Wacker Drive.

The vault is believed to be a ComEd vault, and first responders are waiting for a response from Com Ed as of 5:55 p.m.
