Arlington Heights Weather Forecast: Winter Storm Diminishing — Maybe Only 3.0-Inch Total For Northwest Suburbs

Fortunately for the northwest suburbs, the tracking for the Winter Storm has moved more southerly than expected. An area of dry air, which pushed down from the north overnight, caused less snow than previously forecasted.

While the forecast yesterday called for 2.3 inches of snow by 6:00 a.m., only 1.25 inch of snow was measured on the ground at 6:00 a.m. in Arlington Heights.

The track was expected to be at risk of moving north, but has actualy moved south. The most intense precipitation is south of Kankakee and as far south as Bloomington, where icing is possible. The heaviest snow is now expected near a line south of I-55 from Pontiac, Illinois to the South Side of Chicago and Michigan City.

Arlington Heights and the northwest suburbs are expected to get an additional 4.7 inches of snow Saturday for a total storm accumulation of about 5.95 inches of snow.
