Police say speed was a factor in the crash near Los Angeles that killed two people, including Paul Walker, the star of the “Fast & Furious” movie series. He was 40.
Los Angeles County firefighter/paramedics and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies responded about 3:30 p.m. Saturday to a single-vehicle crash occurred in the 28300 block of Rye Canyon Loop. Firefighters and sheriff’s deputies on arrival reported a vehicle engulfed in flames. Two people in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The crash involved a red Porsche Carrera GT that hit a tree. The victims were later identified as Paul Walker, age 40, and Roger Rodas, age 38.

Walker was just a short distance from his charity event to aid Filipino victims of Typhoon Haiyan for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. Walker formed the organization in 2010 as a quick response first-aid organization aiding in rescue and recovery after major natural disasters around the globe.

The Fast and the Furious series of action films portrayed illegal street racing and heists with street clubs racing Japanese cars late night and early morning. Paul Walker character in the first movie is LAPD officer Brian O’Conner, who is assigned to find the gang responsible for a semi-trailer robbery outside of Los Angeles where the offenders use three highly modified Honda Civics during their attack.
