Crash scene Route 53 northbound.

A large pickup truck was rolled onto the driver’s side with the driver trapped in the vehicle in the northbound lanes of Route 53. A car received heavy damage on the driver’s side door and was faced the wrong way in the northbound lanes of Route 53.

The driver of the truck was extricated from the vehicle by 6:40 p.m. and was transported to a local hospital. Firefighters used a portable battery-powered Hurst “Jaws of Life” tool, and a Swqzall reciprocating saw to remove the roof and windshield of the pickup truck.

All lanes were blocked during rescue/extrication operations, and the outside lane (Lane 3) was opened immediately after the driver of the pickup truck was transferred to the ambulance. Northbound Route 53 was at a standstill and was blocked at least to Algonquin Road from the crash about half way between Northwest Highway and Palatine Road. All lanes were cleared by 7:20 p.m.
