CHICAGO BEARS RADIO -- WBBM Newsradio 780 "Traffic on the 8's"

Mount Prospect police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:40 PM Tuesday to a possible structural problem with a building at Tri-State Electronics, 200 West Northwest Highway Mount Prospect, IL. A partial roof collapse at the home of Tri-State Electronics and Carpet One caused immediate concern about a more complete collapse and precautions to minimize the chance of further collapse. Police and firefighters put up red stickers keeping people away from the building. Traffic was also diverted away from the building to keep drivers out of a collapse zone and to minimize the vibrations of passing traffic that might affect the building.

As of 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, the Mount Prospect Fire Department temporarily closed the westbound lanes of Northwest Highway between Pine and Russell. However, one lane going in each direction is temporarily set up in the regular eastbound lanes to allow traffic to continue moving eastbound and westbound.

Google traffic map indicates traffic is flowing well just before 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013.

There is structural concern because of a partial roof collapse and a cracked brick wall on the northeast corner of the building that is the home of Tri-State Electronics, 200 W. Northwest Highway. Officials want to take necessary precautions and prohibit foot traffic and limit vehicle traffic due to the uncertainty of the building structure at this point. Structural engineers are on site; and police officers are assisting traffic.

There are no volatile hazardous materials on site. The business sells cables, electronics, instruments, and other related items locally and online for Internet and cable television systems for businesses and consumers. The Carpet One store on the west side of the building is also closed.

Power was cut to the building and part of the block between Pine and Russell. The power was also cut to Capannari Ice Cream and Catering, 10 S Pine Street. The owner and employees were busy transporting ice cream to another of their facilities. The catering business will not be affected, but their off-summer schedule may be affected at the store, as it is closed until further notice.

The owner of Capannari’s mentioned that he never got a call from ComEd or the Village of Mount Prospect to inform the business that power had been cut to his building. A friend told him about the problem on his block, and he immediately responded to the ice cream business. Without his immediate response, his product and inventory would have been a serious loss.
