High Upper 80s Today, Thunderstorms Mixed with Sunshine; High 75 Friday with Clouds Clearing

Chicago area radar at about 6:40 a.m. [LIVE RADAR] showed a quick line of thunderstorms passing through the area from about Gary, Indiana, across the northwest suburbs, Lake County (Illinois), and a wider band crossing Wisconsin. Infrared satellite shows clouds over much of Illinois and Wisconsin. Clouds are expected to decrease starting about 10:00 a.m. this morning, and then start to increase about 4:00 p.m.

Gusty winds to about 15 mph are expected about noon to 1:00 p.m. with steady winds increasing from about 8 mph to 14 mph from morning hours to 3:00 p.m. Temperatures in the upper 80s are expected from about 2:00 p.m. until about 6:00 p.m.

Rain yesterday only dropped about 0.1 inch in north Arlington Heights, as the thunderstorms passed just to the west of Arlington Heights. At O’Hare 0.55 inch was reported and 1.61 inch was reported in Berwyn. Parts of Chicago near the United Center received 2.0 inches to 3.5 inches of rain with flooding and wind and lightning damage.

About 0.6 inch of rain is expected in Arlington Heights during the period starting this morning through 6:00 p.m. Friday.

If thunderstorms continue to develop across northern Illinois at a rapid clip this morning and afternoon, we won’t reach the upper 80s.
