VIDEO: Route 53 Wednesday morning after 4 inches of rain fell in about four hours.

About 4 inches of rain flooded Route 53, just south of Dundee Road, and the Runaway Bay and Long Valley apartment complexes in Palatine.

Traffic congestion was a mess because people were rushing to move their vehicles out of the flooded parking lot while others were diverting off of Route 53 to the frontage road on the west side of Route 53.

People reported water was as high as three feet deep near Runaway Bay early in the morning — living up to its name.

Illinois State Police troopers monitored the expressway carefully, but did not need to close down the expressway.
