Downers Grove police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:20 p.m. Thursday to a report of a female teen found unconscious and unresponsive at O’Brien Park, 68th Street and Dunham Road. Jennie Dizon was found by a passerby just east of the sled hill at O’Brien Park.

Paramedics were unable to revive the teen, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:45 p.m. An autopsy on Friday morning, May 31, 2013 indicated that Jennie Dizon, 17, died of electrocution consistent with a lightning strike.

Jennie Dizon was a senior at Benet Academy, and was anticipating graduation in three days.

Benet Academy is mourning the loss of senior Jennie
Dizon, daughter of Eric and Marietta Dizon and sister of
Emmeline ’15 and Michael ’17, who passed into eternal
life last evening, apparently having been struck by
lightning during a thunderstorm. Throughout the day
today, Benet’s chaplain, campus minister, counselors,
administrators, and teachers have been available in the
Chapel, in their offices, in classrooms, and throughout the
school building to offer assistance, comfort, and
consolation to our students and members of the school

Please join the entire Benet Family in remembering Jennie
and the Dizon family in prayer.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
