Northwest Community Healthcare (NCH) is hosting four events in conjunction with Heart Awareness Month in February that will help residents increase their knowledge of their risk for heart disease. Because some heart conditions don’t have symptoms, cardiac risk assessment is important to be able to detect problems early and take preventive measures to lower risk.
Three “Know Your Numbers” cardiac screening events will take place on February 2nd, February 9th and February 16th, giving community members opportunities to assess their risk factors. For $20, attendees will take home their cholesterol, glucose, BMI (body mass index) and blood pressure numbers.
The events run from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. On February 2nd the screenings will take place at the NCH Buffalo Grove Immediate Care Center, 15 S. McHenry Road; on February 9th at the Mt. Prospect Immediate Care Center, 199 W. Rand Road; and on February 16th at the Schaumburg Immediate Care Center, 519 S. Roselle Road. For accurate blood test results, the screening requires fasting for 12 hours in advance.
The fourth event, “Know Your Numbers, Know Your Risk,” is scheduled on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Northwest Community Hospital’s auditorium, 800 W. Central Road in Arlington Heights. The event kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with NCH Wellness Instructor Bobbie Adams leading a free chair yoga class, which provides a safe, gentle way to improve core strength, endurance and flexibility. Beginning at 9 a.m., interventional cardiologist Dr. Stephen Zaacks will discuss the latest in heart health and help attendees understand the meaning behind the cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure numbers.
