Arlington Heights Park District Neighborhood Parks Referendum Voted Down by Residents of Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights voters rejected the Arlington Heights park district’s $39 million Neighborhood Parks Referendum with just over 51 percent of the vote Tuesday, November 6.

In the second referendum failure, 16,440 residents voted “No” and 15,577 residents voted “yes” in Cook County. Lake County residents are not included in the figures because the one precinct that Arlington Heights Park District has in Lake County was not yet reported.

If the referendum would have passed, a resident with a $300,000 home would have seen an average increase of $71 per year for 25 years in the property tax payment to the park district.

Technically, a referendum could appear again on the ballot in April 2013.
