Surface, radar and Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft data indicate that Post-Tropical Cyclone Sandy made landfall near Atlantic City, New Jersey, around 8:00 p.m. EDT with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph.

Storm surge peaked at 13.88 ft at the Battery. Now 9.81 ft & going down (Twitter report from New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s office).

From Virginia to Maine, people with cameras brave the arrival of Hurricane Sandy to capture footage of the storm’s fury.

Hurricane Sandy grounded thousands of flights from Atlanta to San Francisco Monday. The massive storm threatens to bring a near halt to air travel for at least two days in a key region for both domestic and international flights.
