Four years after social media made its presence felt in the Republican and Democratic convention’s in 2008, new media has fully burst onto the scene in 2012 and dramatically changed the political landscape.

Adam Sharp, head of government, news and social innovation at Twitter revealed that a new Twitter Index, or Twindex, monitors hundreds of millions of Twitter messages searching for opinions and views about both 2012 presidential candidates.
