Two Deputies Killed, 2 Injured in Shooting in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana

Sheriff Mike Tregre: Two sheriff’s deputies in Louisiana were shot to death and at least two others were injured in an early morning shootout west of New Orleans, authorities said Thursday.

A gunman opened fire on a police officer that was on traffic detail about 5:00 a.m. at the parking lot of a Valero refinery in St. John the Paptist Parish, 35 miles west of New Orleans. The officer was shot multiple times, but is expected to survive his wounds. A citizen advised St. John’s Sheriff’s office of a speeding auto by Riverview Court Trailer Park. Police recognized a vehicle that matched the description from the shooting, and contacted some individuals.

A person came to the door with a dog. A second person was lying under a blanket. A third person came out of the trailer with an assault weapon and ambushed the officers.

Police have five suspects in custody have five suspects in custody, and do not believe any more suspects are at large.

Louisiana State Police are taking over the investigation.
