* TEMPERATURES…TEMPERATURES WILL AGAIN TOP OUT IN THE UPPER 90S
TO NEAR 100 EARLY THIS AFTERNOON BEFORE COOLER AIR ARRIVES
BEHIND A COLD FRONT LATE THIS AFTERNOON. TEMPERATURES WILL FALL
INTO THE 80S LATER THIS AFTERNOON BRINGING AN END TO THE
OPPRESSIVE HEAT.

* HEAT INDICES…WILL PEAK AROUND 105 DEGREES EARLY THIS AFTERNOON.

* OTHER…AN AIR QUALITY ALERT HAS BEEN DECLARED BY THE ILLINOIS
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY AGAIN TODAY. EXPOSURE TO ELEVATED
OZONE AND PARTICULATE LEVELS WILL ONLY SERVE TO INCREASE
STRESSES ON THE BODY…ESPECIALLY FOR THE VERY YOUNG AND
ELDERLY…AS WELL AS PEOPLE WITH PULMONARY OR RESPIRATORY
DISEASE. ANYONE IN THESE GROUPS SHOULD LIMIT EXPOSURE TO OUTDOOR
AIR.

* IMPACTS…THE LONG DURATION OF THIS HEAT WAVE COMBINED WITH NO
RELIEF FROM THE OPPRESSIVE CONDITIONS AT NIGHT WILL PROVE
PARTICULARLY TAXING TO ANYONE WITHOUT ACCESS TO AIR
CONDITIONING. PERSONS WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING…ESPECIALLY
THE SICK AND ELDERLY WHO ARE MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO HEAT EFFECTS
SHOULD SPEND AT LEAST SEVERAL HOURS EACH DAY IN AIR
CONDITIONING TO HELP REDUCE THE ACCUMULATIVE EFFECT AND TOLL
THE HEAT WILL TAKE ON YOUR BODY. PERSONS IN THE CITY OF
CHICAGO CAN CALL 3 1 1 FOR CITY SERVICES INCLUDING WELL BEING
CHECKS AND FOR INFORMATION ON THE LOCATIONS OF THE NEAREST
COOLING CENTERS.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS…IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN

AN AIR POLLUTION ACTION DAY IS DECLARED WHEN WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE SUCH
THAT WIDESPREAD OZONE AND OR PARTICULATE LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO BE AT OR
ABOVE THE UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS CATEGORY OF THE AIR QUALITY
INDEX. ACTIVE CHILDREN AND ADULTS AND ESPECIALLY PEOPLE WITH PULMONARY
OR RESPIRATORY DISEASE SUCH AS ASTHMA SHOULD LIMIT PROLONGED OUTDOOR
